The good news is that sixth month of pregnancy marks the earliest period in which premature babies have a decent chance at survival. However, this is the time, when body changes in you and your baby are rapid so expect a journey with many ups and downs, just hold on tight and be firm towards your destination.

  • Backache: One of the most common symptoms of pregnancy, that’s more likely to stay with you till the day of delivery.   • Edema:  Somewhere around the 6th month, you’ll observe the swelling of your feet, ankles, and hands. Technically called edema; it occurs because the body retains fluid within the tissues to nourish you and your baby. A little swelling is normal and a common symptom associated with pregnancy. Sometimes, you may notice swelling in the face or around the eyes- ideally, there’s nothing to worry. To avoid edema, remember to keep your feet up when you sit down. Don’t stand for long periods and avoid wearing tight clothes including socks and stockings. Doctors also advise patients to sleep on their side to help the kidneys eliminate waste efficiently.
  • Indigestion:  One of the most annoying symptoms of 6 month pregnancy is constipation. Depending on the stage of your pregnancy, there are several reasons why it occurs. Such as, hormonal changes cause muscles around the bowels to relax, thereby slowing down digestion. Also, the prenatal vitamin pills tighten stools leaving you feeling overfed and gassy. Simple steps like drinking warm water regularly, eating plenty of fiber-rich food, drinking plenty of fluids and regular exercising, help to ease indigestion and heartburn (another common symptom)
  • Increased Appetite and Snoring:  Although the baby’s organs are now developed, they need to mature. The body has to supply enough nutrients to help the process. That’s probably why pregnant women experience an increase in appetite at around the second trimester. The month too isn’t any different. You may find yourself perpetually hungry and craving for food. Avoid junk food as it provides little nutrition to both of you, instead, take a healthy diet. Rather than eating three square meals, consider eating six small meals throughout the day. Another symptom is excessive snoring; your pregnancy hormones are yet again to blame, causing the mucous membranes to swell. Weight gain also induces snoring, as the tissues around the head and neck swell. Nothing to worry, though. Stick a nasal strip while going to bed or sleeping on the side to allow better air circulation, also use two pillows rather than one as keeping your head in an elevated position can be useful.

The sleep cycle of the baby is developed by this week. The best part for parents at 25 weeks pregnant is that your husband can listen to your baby’s heartbeat when he presses his ear on your belly and that feeling is priceless. For a mother, some changes occur as well such as your hair may start being thicker and shiny due to pregnancy hormones, but unfortunately, this only lasts shortly as this will shed off after birth.
The baby is capable of differentiation between sounds. There are some recommendations for every mother at 25 weeks pregnant, such as large intake of water, regular exercise but avoiding it when you feel dizzy or drained out. 27 weeks pregnant

Now is the time to start demanding gentle foot and back rubs from your partner every night. Another thing to expect at 6 months pregnant is the glucose test to screen for gestational diabetes. The test is not painful, just drinking a can of glucose mixture, and then having blood drawn exactly one hour later for examination. Don’t worry; gestational diabetes doesn’t mean that you had diabetes before you conceived, or that you will have it after giving birth so it’s safe to say you can go back to those chocolate sundaes after you deliver.

Calcium makes your baby’s bone strong. Folic acid and iron can be sought from green leafy vegetables and calcium from dairy products. Fresh fruits and nuts supply the extra doses of vitamins and minerals needed for the body, so it is highly recommended to include all these things in your diet for proper fetal development at 6 months pregnant.

The skin of the baby changes to pinkish because of the blood vessels that form under the skin. The lungs continue to mature even though there’s still a lot of time before he’s ready to breathe. The baby also continues to develop the vernix caseosa– this is a little waxy coat that protects its skin from shriveling while floating in the amniotic fluid.
